Let's use the momentum of Neil's tour to put together a Green platform plank on solid waste & recycling. Who took notes for ideas? I saw some pens & paper out there... 1. A GPSJC pamphlet to go with the free visitor & new residents "kits" the realtors distribute, with all the info on how we Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and Dispose, in that order. Encouraging proper separation of waste that must stay, and visitors taking back their waste. 2. How can we make tourists pay their way? 3. Neil said a business or govt agency can get their worksite recycle system approved for reduced rates if done right. We must ensure that every govt agency from Moran State Park to Port Commissions to Sheriff's shops to County road crew shops to BOCC gets certified. Also the clinics, both human and vets. The Rotary and Kiwanis and VFW. Go for our county institutions. 4. Neil said Orcas needs a Decontamination person to pick out the items in the wrong bins & educate the public too. 5. Can we ban that Canadian plastic that's the same color as a recyclable one and easily contaminates the supply? 6. Resist privatizing if means less recylcing and more garbage being necessary to make the carrier business make money. 7. What about rate structure?
